Abdel Adrian was about to make a speech when we arrived, it was he, the ‘peoples duke’ that we were to report our findings to, but we never had the chance.
Not long after he began his speech an assassin arrived, the same man we saw in the cave, he rode lightning and put up a sphere of force, his intent obviously the death of the duke. This however was not to be an easy fight, old and not quite as strong as he once was, he still seemed a credible match for the assassin. Still we were not the type to just let matters go, and quickly found ways inside the sphere thanks to Zhurn’s magic. The Outsiders were more than up to the challenge, and soon Viekang was nothing but a pool of blood and guts.
Normally this would have been the end of the matter, a small reward later and a few drinks later and we’d have considered it just another night. However that was not to be, strange energy coalesced around the body of Viekang, and shot forth into the duke. Something burst forth from his skin, and in place of the duke, we faced what some called the Slayer.
The fight was difficult, for every blow landed, a few of the creatures spikes would inevitably find their way through my own defenses. It was good that we had numbers, lest things have turned for the worst. Zhurn summoned a great bear, while Aedan worked to throw daggers and tangle the creature up with Vorens help. Blessed with a steady shield and sure steel I did what I did best, and suffered the barbs as I tore into the creature, keeping him focused on me. In the end we proved victorious, alas we were unable to save the duke in the process.
Following the battle I healed those I could, and eventually we were approached by three individuals, each seeking to garner our favor for some as yet unclear reason. I feel as if only then have we found ourselves in the real danger this city may yet pose.
